Welcome back to The NOR CAL Report! It's an all baseball edition this week, with plenty to talk about on both sides of the Bay.
The Giants slither meekly out of the break and lose crucial ground to the Rockies and others. How do their plans for future dominance, plus Brian Sabean's disposition, compare to their '09 playoff hopes?
The A's continue to struggle for consistency — but have shown marked improvement from Brett Anderson and Young Guns A to Z. The resurgence comes at a time when the team recognizes the greatest leadoff hitter of all time.
We're fastest from first to third — and we hope you'll bring us home. On The NOR CAL Report!
UP NEXT: Giants phenom Tim Alderson joins the Report, and talks pitching, climbing the corporate ladder, and even some behind-the-scenes locker room moments. The Giants face off in a creucial three game set against Colorado for Wild Card prominence. The A's look to send Rickey off in style. And the Earthquakes hope some key midfield additions translate to the standings.

All the latest info, anecdotes and opinions from the Report's own Jess Zitrin.
Almost as soon as we shut off the mikes, the A's confirmed the season's first big trade: Matt Holliday for three Cardinals prospects. How does their haul stack up with Holliday's value, including the Carlos Gonzalez package they paid to get him? According to experts, very strong. Brett Wallace, in particular, should be capable of solving many of Oaktown's offensive ills the near future...
ESPN analyst Keith Law rates Wallace among the top 10 prospects in the minors, anywhere, and figures him for the A's Opening Day roster next year. Once again it appears that Billy Beane, rather than Roy Halladay or anyone else, has set the market...
Recent Report guest Matt Cain talked to us about moving from the small town South to S.F. You'll find more on Matt's new lifestyle in this profile... Susan Slusser reports that the Giants "never called" on Matt Holliday...
Speaking of local prospects, MattytheK wrote to ask when the Giants would bump up slugging prospect Thomas Neal. Good question. Neal, the pick of top prospect Nick Noonan for most underrated player in the Giants' system, is hitting all heck out of the ball (.350/17/66) for San Jose. My guess is, before the year is up...
Not many people realize that Sue Burns was in fact the Giants majority owner when she passed away last week. But most of those who do, also understand her tremendous impact on the individuals whose lives she touched. Here's hoping Mrs. Burns gets the praise in the afterlife that she never sought down here.
Thanks as always for tuning in to The NOR CAL Report. See you next time!
